I think of religion as a sort of safety net. A reassuring lie. A "just in case" bet. Something to fall back on when you're without any answers. Want to kill yourself? Just go talk to a pastor. Everyday you can hear people complaining about how conceited other people are. And how they have no right to be. Every day you can hear someone say, why does someone so ugly love themselves so much? Dear Purity, Let me just start out by saying, I'm sorry for having ruined you- but let's not forget those many ways you've ruined me too. I'm without a clean slate or void mind, but I suppose those change for everyone over time. The thing is, if I could go back and erase the past, well I'm not sure I would. The mother of pain keeps calling my name. She's come to collect the rent, but the money I've spent on smiles and laughter for happy days of the past. But happiness never lasts. She's here once again. She acts like a friend. But I know the truth. She feeds on my sorrow and pain. The more I lose the more she gains. So, until I gather the money to break free of this curse.
